On July 27th of this year (three months ago) I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.
My A1C was 11.5 and I was coming down from a 500 point blood glucose level.
Yes, it was that bad. At 600+, you lapse into a diabetic coma and/or die.
Today I am pleased to report that after following a strict regiment of diet, exercise and medication I was able to bring my A1C down from 11.5 to 5.6 in a span of three months.
Yeah, I beat diabetes.
That’s not to say I can go back to my old habits. I still have to watch what I eat, I still have to work out like a fiend and I still have to take Metformin twice a day until I get the all-clear, and even after that I still have to be careful.
If you have Type II diabetes, you can beat this. It’s not impossible. I did it, so can you. All you need is a little discipline, patience, and follow the advice of your doctor.
It’s entirely doable.
I’d like to thank my readers for their support during this time. You’ve been a big help, some of you have offered great advice which worked out for me.
My husband, who has been 50 plus pounds overweight for more than a decade, was diagnosed last March. The metformin made him so nauseous for weeks that he was able to lose 40 pounds without trying, and as his appetite came back has been much more careful about what and how much he eats. He's lost all the weight, and feels much better. He's a 25% of the initial metformin prescribed and half the insulin, with hopes of lowering the amounts even more.
Eat right, weight control, exercise, fresh air...it makes all the difference. I'm not saying it's easy but it sure is better than feeling miserable and being sick.
