I have an idea.
Mind you, this is a terrible idea. In fact, it’s undoubtedly the worst idea ever in the long, sad history of bad ideas and it probably won’t work.
But here it goes.
Right now there are but two political parties in this country and both of them have some really awful ideas about women’s issues. The Democratic Party supports gender ideology, supports the idea that trans women are women, supports the use of pronouns, support allowing men access to women’s spaces, supports men participating in women’s sports and supports self-identification - essentially all the things we of the Gender Critical wholesale reject.
The Republicans, while against all these things, are worse. The Republicans on the issue of women’s rights have shown themselves to be regressive. They do not support a woman’s right to choose, they do not support the Equal Rights Amendment, they do not support paying women the same as men. In fact, they’d just just as happy if women just stayed home barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen.
Actually, the Republicans do support gender ideology - they just support the old-timey, traditional Me Tarzan, You Jane variety.
Many, if not all of us, feel politically homeless. While we support a variety of progressive and conservative issues it’s increasingly obvious that we part company with both parties when it comes to women’s causes.
While we support a woman’s right to choose, we don’t support the idea that man can put on a dress, call himself Susan and insist you refer to him as “she” or “her” and use the full weight of the legal system against you if you don’t.
While we support that women should be equally protected or prosecuted under the law we reject the notion that she be locked up in the same prison with her rapist who feels like a woman.
And we certainly don’t want our children to make life changing decisions about their bodies without first our advisement and consent.
Recognizing that we can’t go to the Democrats or the Republicans as each is a poison pill we refuse to swallow what is left for us to do?
We form our own party.
Again, this is a horrible idea and probably won’t work but I don’t see any other way as both parties are institutionally captured by ideologues. If we have any chance of changing things we need to be the change we want to make happen.
Together we have the power but we have to be together.
What say you?
I have been saying this for years! There is one- remember Gary Johnson - I am in that 1% who voted ,and has, for the last three elections for the “independent” candidate. Simply because neither party really feels right to me. I’m in! Where do I sign up?
Great idea!. In Canada we now have 5 parties, though 2 form the majority of votes. It's appalling that there are only 2 parties (with a few independents) who are basically 2 wings of the same bird, in the most powerful country on the planet. Have at 'er! 🙂
