I really didn't appreciate how powerful propaganda was/is until the past few years. It really is easier to fool someone than to convince them they've been fooled. I'm also ever mindful that I, too, could also be in the thrall of propaganda.
When I tell people that rapists with intact male bodies are in women's prisons, they don't believe me. When I prove it to them, they shake their heads. Then we repeat the conversation six months later, because they forget, they don't want to think about it.
